    The Black Partisan

    9+

We are proud to present another extraordinary historic hero, to follow on from Luboš Jednorožec (Hunt for Jednorozec), Emil Zátopek (Zá-to-pek!) and the Kopecký brothers (The Hopeful Brothers). His name is Josef Serinek.
Josef Serinek (1900–1974) was a Czech Rom, who used the cover name Černý (“Black”) during the war. He fought as a soldier in the 1st World War, and during the Second World War he was held at the Lety concentration camp, from which he escaped and joined the anti-Nazi resistance. Later, he became the leader of a partisan unit active in the Bohemian-Moravian highlands. After the war, Serinek opened a pub called U Partyzána –The Partisan’s. He was supposed to be forgotten, as were the events he took part in… Josef Serinek was awarded several prizes, the Černý partyzán initiative was launched in his memory, and Triáda publishing house produced an extensive book entitled Česká cikánská rapsodie, which tells the story of this legend’s life. Come with us as we retrace the steps of the “Black Partisan” and experience a real Czech Western!
